About the Changing Lives Together Foundation

After founding and organizing their own annual charity event since 2011 which raised just under a million dollars since its start, as well as volunteering for various charities in Charlotte, co-founders Mike and Laura Dascal felt the need to do more.  So, in July 2019, they created their own non-profit – The Changing Lives Together Foundation!

The Foundation’s mission is to “To enrich and change the lives of special needs kids and kids with life-altering medical circumstances."  As a Foundation, they partner with similar charities, host events, create experiences for kids, provide educational scholarships and make financial donations to other charities.

The experiences we help provide could be helping a kid attend college one day, having the opportunity to play on a recreation wheelchair basketball team, the surprise experience when Santa Claus comes and visits you in the hospital or other exciting opportunities.

Events like 7H help us accomplish our mission to provide opportunities like this and financial grants to college bound kids and donating to other charities whose mission aligns with ours.

Our story

The 7H Mission

Founded in 2015, the Charlotte Heptathlon is the premier athletic fundraising competition in the Greater Charlotte region. To date, the competition has raised over $750,000 for its charitable beneficiaries. Our 2023 competition will benefit The Changing Lives Foundation and offer our sponsors the opportunity to showcase their business to a concentrated group of successful, community-minded individuals primarily from the financial services industry.

The Competitors

The Charlotte Heptathlon is open to all men and women who enjoy athletic competition and are passionate about our mission. A majority of our competitors are successful professionals in Charlotte’s financial services industry. This includes senior professionals at commercial banks, investment managers and investment banks, but also participants from local technology and business or professional service firms who serve the financial industry.

By channeling the competitive nature of the financial industry’s participants for good, our event seeks to capitalize on the indelible impact this industry has made on the Greater Charlotte region.

The Competition

The 2023 Charlotte Heptathlon will be on May 20th at Crossfit Charlotte and consist of 7 events designed to test the speed, agility, strength and endurance of our competitors. Teams of 2 athletes will compete and receive a composite score for their results versus the rest of the field. Overall and age-bracketed winners will be crowned at both the team and individual levels.

  • Capped at 150 participants
  • Entry fee of $150 per individual and minimum fund raise goal of $1,400 per team
  • Professionally produced athletic competition, rain or shine
  • Athletic events designed to be challenging to the serious athlete while remaining approachable for all competitors. The 2023 event will include a one mile run, 500m row, pull-ups, vertical jump, dips, and two surprise events!
  • Fund raising excellence can improve a team’s composite score in the competition
